Jacob Banks - Corner Hotel
Handsome Tours and Secret Sounds are thrilled to announce that Nigerian-born British singer-songwriter Jacob Banks will be extending his trip down under this July. Already set to grace audiences at Splendour in the Grass with that incredible baritone and his beautifully insightful storytelling, Banks will also be making stops in Sydney and Melbourne this winter.
Buoyed by the success of a trio of EPs – ‘The Monologue’, ‘The Paradox’ and ‘The Boy Who Cried Freedom’ – Jacob Banks dropped his eagerly awaited full length album, ‘Village’, in November of 2018. It’s a sprawling, deeply immersive experience on which Banks’ throaty, expressive sound weaves its way through a mesmerizing mix of styles and textures.
Whether he’s riding a hip-hop groove or jamming to neo-blues, the connective tissue throughout ‘Village’ is Banks’ profound commitment to exploring human themes.
“That’s how I really see myself – a storyteller in songs,” observes Banks. “I find so much of the time that musicians don’t really come across as human because they only celebrate a tiny fraction of what they are. With this album, ‘Village’, I tried to embrace all that I’ve lived through and experienced…”
After ‘The Monologue’, Banks soared with 2015’s EP ‘The Paradox’, which spawned his biggest track to date, ‘Unknown (To You)’, amassing 20 million streams and counting. ‘The Boy Who Cried Freedom’ followed, with Time magazine labelling smooth track ‘Chainsmoking’ as one of the year’s best songs.
Banks has gone on to open for Sam Smith and Alicia Keys, played to crowds at SXSW, Lollapalooza, Coachella and Austin City Limits, and to packed out houses during a headline tour of the States and Europe. Seth Meyers, Jimmy Kimmel and Ellen DeGeneres also invited him to perform to households around the world on their respective shows.
